What Happens at your first Homeopathic Consultation?

The Homeopath will ask you questions about many different aspects of your life, including your childhood likes & dislikes, temperament, medical history and your symptoms etc. This is one of the main aspects of Homeopathy, as it looks at the whole person and not just the disease or individual symptoms like orthodox medicine does. In order to find the best remedy that will help your symptoms, the Homeopath must know as much about you as you can tell them. Nothing about you is unimportant!

Many questions will evolve around the main reason why you have come to see a Homeopath. For example what types of symptoms or illness you are suffering from, when these symptoms are worse or better, what aggravates these symptoms, when did they start. All this information is very important because it can ultimately lead to finding out the route cause of your symptoms. It will also best determine the most appropriate remedy for you because although 2 people may come to see a Homeopath with the same disease label e.g. arthritis, these 2 people are very unlikely to receive the same remedy because although they both have arthritis their symptoms will display themselves in different ways. For example, one persons symptoms may be worse in the morning and whilst moving, whilst the other patients symptoms may be worse at night and when lying still. This is all very relevant information to the Homeopath.

Areas such as sleeping patterns, temperature, food and diet, fears and phobias are also discussed at length in the consultation.

The initial consultation will last about an hour, with follow up sessions lasting approximately 30 minutes. These timings can vary slightly depending on the Homeopath and the treatment required.

At the end of your consultation your Homeopath will prescribe a remedy, which may be given to you at your consultation or which will be posted to you soon after your visit. Instructions on how to take your remedy will be given at the end of your appointment or with your posted remedy.

All information you give to the Homeopath will be strictly confidential, shared only between yourself and the Homeopath.

There will be no physical examination during your visit unless absolutely needed e.g. in cases of skin complaints the Homeopath may ask to see the effected area.
